Don’t Waste Your Workout – Use A Wrist Heart Monitor
Our heart rate varies up and down while we are exercise and it is important to keep a track of it to stay in the best zone for the activity we are doing. When you don’t monitor your cardiac rate there is a good chance you may be working harder than you need to or not putting in enough effort and thereby wasting some of the effort you are putting in. And you don’t want to let your heart rate get so high that you are in danger of heart attack or heart failure. Measuring your heart rate while exercising gives you an extra measure of safety. A wrist heart monitor is a good way to do this.
A wrist heart monitor is a personal monitoring device that allows you measure your heart rate in real time and, with many models, also record it for later study.
The traditional heart rate monitors consist of a monitoring device with a set of electrode leads that attached to the torso. These are used in a clinical setup for very accurate tests. But, of course, you can’t lug a big electronic unit with you when you go for a run or walk around the block. New technology today has given us small and portable heart rate monitors that we can wear on our wrists and let you know what your heart rate is moment by moment.
One type of wrist heart monitor works by taking your heart rate through your index and middle fingers. For an accurate reading you just need to place your fingers on the device. This is fairly quick and easy to use. Other types come with a strap you wear around your chest and it wirelessly sends a signal to the unit on your wrist which displays your heart rate in real time. These are not quite as handy as the single wrist mounted type since you must place the strap around your chest before you begin your exercise but once it is in place the wrist units displays your heart rate continuously.
And other readings are available on some models such as heart rate variability, activity, and breathing rate. On some the plastic strap sensors are replaced by fabric ones that are more comfortable. Other features that may be offered are the ability to measure average heart rate over a period, alert you when you are in a specific heart rate zone, track calories burnt, track breath rate, and record speed and distance covered in a certain time, with the capability of transferring the data to a computer.
It would be a good idea to think about getting a wrist heart monitor prior to doing your next workout so you can be sure of getting the best results from the effort you put in. It can help you get into shape faster because you know what effect you are getting, or if you are maintaining a fitness level it gives excellent feedback to help you verify you are at the level where you want to be.
